The Duke and Duchess of Sussex marked Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s birthday on Thursday with a small celebration at their California home, as the Covid pandemic rages on. It has since been reported the Queen sent birthday wishes to her great-grandson through a video call earlier this week. Sources told Mirror Online the toddler is likely to have shown off “a distinct American accent” during the call.
Members of the Royal Family also wished Archie a Happy Birthday publicly on their social media channels – although many royal watchers commented that the pictures they used of him were taken before Harry and Meghan quit their roles as senior royals last year.
It comes as Prince Charles is said to have only seen his grandson twice since he was born, so is unlikely to have any recent pictures of him.
As a result, his official Clarence House account had to use photos from shortly after he was born or from his official christening.
A source told The Mail: “The truth is the Prince of Wales has barely seen his grandson twice since he was born.
“In fact every member of Harry’s family can easily count on one hand the number of times they saw Archie after he was born and before the family left the UK.
“It’s a very sad situation.”
Harry recently returned to the UK for the first time since moving to the US as he joined the Royal Family in bidding farewell to Prince Philip last month.
However, he is reported to have only briefly spoken to his father Charles and brother Prince William as their strained relationship continues.

He said: “My grandmother and I have a really good relationship. And an understanding. And I have a deep respect for her.”
Harry also told Oprah that he felt let down by his father and that “there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened” between them.
He also added his relationship with his brother William was “spaced” but he loved him to bits.
Harry said: “As I’ve said before, I love William to bits. He’s my brother.
“We’ve been through hell together. I mean, we have a shared experience. But we’re on different paths.
“The relationship is space at the moment. And time heals all things, hopefully.”
The Duke also added he felt trapped in the Royal Family and shared his “compassion” for William and Charles being unable to leave their roles.
He said: “My father and my brother, they are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have huge compassion for that.”
Meghan also talked about her son Archie not receiving security after he was not made a prince.
She also suggested Archie was not made a prince because of his race, even though rules set by George V meant he was not entitled to be one.
Oprah asked: “Do you think it’s because of his race? I know that’s a loaded question.”
Meghan replied: “I can give you an honest answer. In those months when I was pregnant, all around this same time, so we (had) the conversation of he won’t be given security, he’s not going to be given a title. And also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”
The Queen issued a statement saying “while some recollections may vary”, the issues would be taken “very seriously”, but dealt with privately as a family.
