Brussels’ chief negotiator was briefing EU27 ambassadors on their state of play before his expected return to London later today. EU insiders last night warned the wrangling over the future relationship pact are “completely stuck” because of disputes over post-Brexit fishing rights and common standards, including state aid rules. Mr Barnier told the private meeting of senior diplomats that he was unsure whether a Brexit deal can be struck in time.
The Frenchman has left isolation after a coronavirus outbreak in his team but has not yet officially announced his travel plans.
