That’s according to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

Sane made 31 appearances in the Premier League in the season just gone with 10 of those coming from the bench.

The German did manage to notch 16 goals in all competitions during Manchester City’s record-breaking domestic treble-winning season, however.

But on Thursday evening, Bayern Munich president Karl-Heinz Rummenigge express his club’s interest in signing Sane, who was rumoured to have suffered some off-field issues with City boss Pep Guardiola this season.

“We will try. I can not promise whether it will succeed,” Rummenigge said a Bild event in Berlin.

“We already had the idea when he was still with Schalke.

“But at that time we did not have a guaranteed regular place for him. [Arjen] Robben and [Franck] Ribéry were top of the top three years ago.”

And now it seems that Bayern have gone ahead with their attempts to sign Sane, according to Italian journalist Romano.

He tweeted: “Bayern Münich have made the first bid to Man City for Leroy Sané: €80M and talks have started, now waiting for Citizens answer.”

Guardiola spoke of Sane’s City future after their 6-0 FA Cup final pasting over Watford last weekend.

“We offered to extend his contract,” he said.

“We want him to stay. What proof is more than for six, seven months we want to extend his contract? If we don’t want him, we don’t extend his contract.

“Some movements we have to do for next season, because people want to leave, players want to play.

“They accept not playing for a period but it’s normal that they want to play more. I can’t assure that to anyone so I understand completely.”

Sane was bought by City after Guardiola took over in 2016 and has amassed a record of 39 goals in 133 appearances in Manchester.

He was named PFA young player of the year in 2018 and was one of their key performers in City’s ‘Centurions’ season.
