At the moment there are a number of restrictions both in the UK and abroad affecting global travel. The identification of a new variant of Covid-19 has affected international travel, with many nations restricting travel from the UK. A tougher four-tier lockdown system was also introduced over the weekend, which has seen a third of the population placed under Tier 4 stay at home guidance.

Can you go on holiday?

Different rules on international travel apply in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, and people should follow the local rules in their area.

In England, people living in Tier 4 areas are not permitted to travel abroad except for limited circumstances, such as work.

The Government guidance for Tier 4 states: “If you live in a Tier 4 area, you can only travel internationally – or within the UK – where you first have a legally permitted reason to leave home.

“We are asking everyone, in all tiers, to stay local. People should carefully consider whether they need to travel abroad and follow the rules in their tier.”

A number of countries have closed their borders to the UK while the new variant of coronavirus prevalent in parts of England remains under investigation.

The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) website warns with regards to international travel, people should be aware other countries may have closed borders, or restrict movement and bring in new quarantine rules with little warning.

The FCDO Covid-19 travel advice also states: “Check our advice on things to consider and be prepared to stay overseas longer than planned.

“Before you return to the UK you must provide your journey and contact details. Also check if you need to self-isolate.”

Visitors to Dubai will need to follow certain procedures before travelling.

The FCDO website states: “Before visitors fly to Dubai, they will also be required to complete a Health Declaration Form and a Quarantine Form.

“Both forms need to be printed, completed and handed over to Dubai Health Authority staff on arrival.

“Visitors to Dubai will also have to register their details on the COVID-19 DXB App.”
