The vaccine, developed by BioNTech and Pfizer, could be delivered within hours of the authorisiation, Whitehall insiders have claimed.
Officials close to the process said the first injections could take place from December 7.
The UK has so ordered 40 million doses of the two-shot vaccine.
Earlier this month, the firms behind the jab announced it is 95 percent effective against coronavirus.
The European Medicines Agency would normally authorise vaccines until the UK fully departs the European Union at the end of the Brexit transition period on December 31.
But in emergency instances, the UK’s Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency now has the power to temporarily authorise products.
