Viewers are desperate for 16-year-old Jacob (played by Joe-Warren Plant) to escape the clutches of his evil grooming teacher Maya (Louisa Clein) on Emmerdale.
The pair have been hiding out on the run ever since Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), Priya Sharma (Fiona Wade) and Tracy Metcalfe (Amy Walsh) kidnapped her and the former attacked her during the Big Night Out scenes on the ITV soap.
Jacob returned to the village and David finally learned the truth, initially struck with disbelief and deeply upset by Jacob and Maya’s actions.
But when the reality of what Maya has been doing to his adopted teenage son, David was consumed by anger and a desperation to free Jacob from his ex-girlfriend’s constant manipulation.
Viewers already know Maya will be arrested after David blindsides her in the cricket pavilion.
The shopkeeper does some top-notch sleuthing by convincing Ryan Stocks (James Moore) to help him infiltrate Jacob’s emails after he returns home to complete his GCSE exams.
David intercepts one to meet Maya and sneaks along to meet her, where the long-awaited confrontation will finally take place.
At first Maya doesn’t believe David could call the police on her, instead insisting he would be “too embarrassed” for the villagers to find out he’d lost yet another girlfriend, as explained by actor Matthew in a recent interview.
But the truth hits hard, and Maya is carted off by the authorities.
Viewers may be surprised to learn the scenes won’t play out at all how they expect them to however, as Matthew teased things turn “very emotional”.
“We literally filmed these scenes a couple of days ago and it was really interesting because I hadn’t seen Louisa for weeks and weeks,” Matthew shared. “She tries to get out of the cricket pavilion and is scared of David, she doesn’t know what he’s going to do.
“He could have brought a knife, could have beat her up or left her for dead, anything…”
“She’s only just gone through that with the girls in the flashback episode. So [Maya] does try and escape and David blocks her way.
“He says ‘I just need to sit down with you and I need you to tell me what the hell has gone on here?
“Because I can’t wrap my head around it, why a grown woman would want to not only be with a 15, 16-year-old, but somebody who is my son and I’d looked after?’
“Someone who she knew I’d adored and loved, so it was a really emotional few scenes that we have in there.
“And it was really interesting to play,” Matthew then teased.
David looks set to have his work cut out for him with his adopted son in future months on the soap, as Jacob will blame him for what happens.
Will Jacob ever forgive his father and realise just how twisted Maya truly is?
Emmerdale continues tonight at 7pm on ITV.
