Prosecutor John Price QC said the dad of two, 49, would sit on beds and stroke his victims’ legs through the covers, or their arms.

Mr Price added: “It is alleged this was done for his sexual gratification.

“In each case it was in the bedroom of a boy alone, partly clothed. Mowbray would sit on the bed when a chair was available.

“The door would be closed and the light off. If a boy switched it on, Mowbray would turn it off again.”

One ex-pupil told of several visits when the geography master “stroked me from my knee to my groin”.

Another victim felt “powerless”. Reading crown court also heard Mowbray, of Southampton, often took photos on sports days.
