Caplan, who was looking for a place to spend the night, was invited in to sleep on the floor of the woman’s living room, Fox 13 Tampa reports.

After going to sleep in her bedroom, she told Pinellas County deputies she woke up to Caplan on top of her with his hands around her neck while being sexually assaulted, according to an affidavit.

The woman tried to flee her home but Caplan grabbed her hair and kept her from leaving, deputies said.

He was charged Friday with sexual battery, felony battery, false imprisonment and tampering with a witness.

He was jailed on $112,500 bond.

It’s not the first time a woman has been sexually assaulted in her sleep.

Last month, a homeless man allegedly broke into a New York apartment and tried to rape a sleeping 15-year-old girl before being chased off by her mom, police said.

Marlon Alvarez, 30, was arrested after months on the run and charged with attempted rape, burglary, sex abuse and forcible touching.

The young girl was sleeping in her bed in the Bronx borough of New York City around 4.30am on May 30 when the man allegedly jumped on top of her and tried to rape her.

But the girl’s mother heard her screams and allegedly chased Alvarez out of the home.

Luckily, the victim was not injured, cops said.

And earlier this year, A 10-year-old boy was arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman as she slept.

The juvenile male had sexual contact with a 19-year-old female in a home in Utica, New York, according to the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office.

In a bizarre case, a sleepwalker who groped a woman in bed was cleared of sexual assault because he was suffering from a sleep disorder.

Gerard Bryceland, 53, climbed into bed with the 20-year-old and her partner before grabbing her breast, a court heard.

The woman “froze” as she and her partner woke up to find Bryceland in bed beside them with his hand over her body.

Bryceland, of Glasgow, was acquitted of the sex assault charge after a sheriff accepted a psychiatrist’s view that his sleepwalking was a “mental disorder.”
