PANORAMA will hold an investigation into itself over how Martin Bashir obtained his “scoop of the century” interview with Princess Diana.

Respected journalist John Ware has been commissioned to make a special edition of the BBC1 programme which will scrutinise Bashir’s methods.

It’s alleged he commissioned a graphic artist to forge bank statements and convince Diana her staff were leaking stories[/caption]

The probe could be broadcast next year, with Ware, 72, having been told to “leave no stone unturned” into allegations surrounding the interview 25 years ago, it was reported.

During the 1995 talk, Diana famously stated that there were “three people in my marriage” — a reference to husband Prince Charles’s relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, now Duchess of Cornwall.

A newspaper alleged recently that Bashir, 57, landed it after commissioning a graphic artist to forge bank statements to convince Diana her staff were leaking stories about her.

The Beeb investigated, ruling the documents were “put to no use that had any bearing” on the interview.

But Diana’s brother, Earl Spencer, accused the BBC of a “whitewash” after publicity over the interview’s 25th anniversary.

Bashir is off sick after contracting Covid and having a heart op.
