Pic of Matthijs de Ligt mocked up wearing Man Utd shirt emerges… and fans are loving it

Manchester United and Barcelona are fighting it out to win the race for De Ligt, who is widely expected to leave Ajax this summer.

The Holland international has been regularly linked with a move to both clubs this summer after helping Ajax win the Eredivisie title and reach the Champions League semi-finals.

A Manchester United fan has now taken to social media to share a mocked up image of the teenager wearing their new home kit.

And fans are loving it, pining for the centre-back to move to Old Trafford.

“Wow,” said one fan, accompanying the tweet with two emojis.

“Ahhh what an edit. Someone on Instagram tag De Ligt, so he could see this. Bombard his tags and i’m sure he’ll even be surprised about how good this looks,” said a second.

“Have to agree to the fact that our fans are the best in photoshop,” a third added.

“C’mon @MinoRaiola show him this suits him well,” were the mischievous words of a fourth supporter.

“Dream that will become a reality,” a fifth fan said.

And a sixth then chipped in with: “I’m getting so gassed and I know I’m going to cry if he doesn’t sign.”

Meanwhile, journalist Duncan Castles has claimed United have snubbed a Mino Raiola demand regarding De Ligt.

“Manchester United have been briefing over the weekend that they do no expect a deal to happen,” Castles said on The Transfer Window podcast.

“I don’t think that is a particular surprise.

“If you rationally address this, the only way De Ligt goes to Manchester United is for money.

“Why would you choose, as your first move, to go for a club that’s outside of the Champions League football, that has a terrible defence?

“So you would be exposed as a teenager coming in and shifting from your own country for the first time to being expected to fix that defence.”
