STUNNED Jan Carter was banned from a Rod Stewart gig — because she had a toothpick in her bag.

A security guard told Jan, 53, she could not go in because the 2in wooden item was “an offensive weapon”.

She said: “It was absolutely ridiculous. My earrings had a longer, sharper point made of metal but they didn’t seem to have any problem with them.”

Jan and daughter Robyn, 21, were finally allowed into St Mary’s Stadium — home of Southampton FC — after she threw the toothpick away.

But the row with the guard meant she missed the first part of Rod’s set.

Jan said: “It was very frustrating and I was disgusted by the ridiculous time-wasting.

“Definitely a case of security overkill.”

Southampton FC said they had no official report of Jan’s encounter with security but “would never refuse entry” over a toothpick.
