Sadiq Khan has served as the mayor of London since 2016. He is the current Labour candidate with hopes of being reelected in the elections which took place today.

In his current role as the Mayor of London, Khan has an annual salary of £152,734.


The Mayor was born on October 8, 1970 in Tooting, London.

He will have built up his fortune through his career as a solicitor and politician.

Khan earned a law degree from the University of North London and soon began earning as a solicitor.

While in the role, he specialised in human rights issues while also chairing the Liberty advocacy group for three years.

The Mayor moved into politics in the early 1990s and was a councillor for the London Borough of Wandsworth from 1994 to 2006.

He took on a role as the MP for Tooting after winning the position in the 2005 general election.

The average salary for a member of Parliament stands at £81,932.

However, in 2005, when he first held the position, Khan was more likely to have been taking home £59,095 a year.

During his political career, Khan has worked as Minister of State for Communities and the Minister of State for Transport.

While in Ed Miliband’s shadow cabinet, he served as Shadow Secretary of State for Justice, Shadow Lord Chancellor and Shadow Minister for London.

In 2016, the 50-year-old topped up his earnings when he was elected as the Mayor of London.

Two years later, the Mayor was named as one of the ‘World’s 100 Most Influential People’ by Time 100.
