He hasn’t matched that form since then but he’s right down the weights and is only six so has time to find his old sparkle.
Capable Ben Jones takes a valuable 3lb off his back and it would be no surprise to see him hit the frame.
Each way thief
COPPERHEAD (3.00 Newbury)
Robbie Power and Colin Tizzard team up with this six-year-old who was an impressive winner on his last Newbury start at Christmas.
He then stepped up to Grade 2 level to lift a nice prize at Ascot. That saw him sent off well backed for the RSA Chase at the Festival when he couldn’t go the pace.
There were few questions asked on his comeback over hurdles at Wetherby last time but that should see him nice and fit for this assignment.
WESTERN MILLER (3.35 Newbury)
The handicapper has been surprisingly fair with Charlie Longsdon’s chaser who ran a cracker when second on comeback at Cheltenham.
He seemed to enjoy being held up rather than tanking along in front and came home well behind impressive winner Rouge Vif.
He goes off the same mark today and should be on the premises.
