Should I let my son see his abusive, cocaine-using dad on Christmas Day?

DEAR DEIDRE: SHOULD I let my son see his dad on Christmas Day?

He will be devastated if I say no, but I really must keep him safe.

I split with my son’s dad over his drinking, cocaine use and abusive behaviour.

I tried to encourage a relationship between him and our son, but my ex would usually take him to the pub.

Our child is six and we’re in our late twenties.

I’ve said I want to arrange access through the courts so he can have tests to make sure he’s clean.

But he got aggressive and has seen our son once since then.

DEIDRE SAYS: Don’t risk your son’s safety.

It’s so sad that his dad puts drink and drugs first.

It would be safest for him to see his dad at a contact centre.

Make it your New Year resolution to get it sorted.
