RATINGS for Sports Personality of the Year almost halved this year as millions turned off the BBC’s “boring” awards do.
Even at its peak, just 4.75million tuned in on Sunday night to see F1 hero Lewis Hamilton crowned as this year’s top prize winner — down from 8.6million for the 2019 show.
And viewing figures for the two-hour marathon dipped as low as 2.3million, with some calling the ceremony “drawn-out” and “dull”.
Rich Eames posted on Twitter: “Boring. Predictable. Can we have a few years off from this tripe please?”
Another viewer, Dave, said: “Does anyone still watch this drawn out s***e programme?”
And Matt Read tweeted: “Used to love every minute of BBC Sports Personality Of The Year.
“That’s not been the case for at least five years.
“lt’s slow, vanilla, insincere and — frankly — dull. A refresh is badly needed.”
