With many supermarkets having long queues for online delivery, customers may flock to their local stores for Christmas shopping. When is the quietest time to shop in Tesco, Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons?

However, visiting stores before 11am or after 7pm could be the best time to avoid queues, according to Google data.

Going to stores is busiest on the weekends, especially between 12pm and 5pm on a Saturday.

Ahead of Christmas, a message from Tesco CEO Jason Tarry offered advice to beat the busy period.

He said: “As the festive season approaches, it’s always busier for our stores, so please consider shopping a little earlier than you usually would, to avoid the peak festive period.”

DON’T MISS

Some Tesco branches will also be open 24 hours to spread out when customers shop.

Asda

With the shelves already stocked with Christmas essentials, customers can get their food now.

Asda shoppers could also beat the rush by visiting stores during the week, especially on Wednesdays or Thursdays.

Saturdays and Sundays are the most likely to have queues, with stores being busiest in the afternoon.

Sainsbury’s

The supermarket giant will regularly update stock throughout the day to encourage shoppers to spread out when they visit.

It has also extended opening hours in some branches over the festive period.

A statement said: “We are working hard to keep our shelves well stocked so customers can arrive at any point during store open hours and find most of the items they need.”

Branches could be quieter during the week, especially on Mondays, Google data shows.

Those hoping to miss the queues should avoid shopping on Saturdays and Sundays.

Morrisons

Morrisons shared advice on when to shop during the pandemic.

“Thank you to our customers for continuing to shop considerately,” the retailer previously posted on Twitter.

“We’re generally less busy later in the day so if you’d like to shop when it’s quieter, and are able to, try visiting us in the afternoon to get the essentials you need.”

The supermarket giant is quietest during the week, especially in the afternoon, before 10am or after 7pm.
