Tottenham start their Carabao Cup campaign with a trip to Colchester this evening, and several first team players could enjoy a run-out in the third round tie.
Spurs are reeling off the back of a shock 2-1 defeat to Leicester at the weekend, with Mauricio Pochettino’s men seventh in the table – 10 points behind Liverpool.
The Carabao Cup offers a chance for some respite and the Tottenham manager is likely to use the opportunity to blood some of his younger squad members.
Pochettino will also call upon fringe members of the first team to help see off the League Two outfit with the minimum of fuss as he looks to protect his players ahead of a busy schedule.
Paulo Gazzaniga will continue in goal with captain Hugo Lloris likely to be absent once more, having missed the defeat to Leicester in order to be with his wife at the birth of their third child.
Pochettino will hope to be able to call upon Juan Foyth at right-back if the Argentine is sufficiently recovered from injury while one of Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen is expected to start.
The other centre-back position could be filled by Davinson Sanchez or youth academy graduate Japheth Tanganga.
Ben Davies will rotate in for Danny Rose at left-back with Ryan Sessegnon still sidelined while Eric Dier was an unused substitute at the weekend and should start.
Victor Wanyama will also hope to get some minutes under his belt, having made his first appearance of the season from off the bench against Leicester.
Christian Eriksen and Lucas Moura also made late cameos in the defeat and should start while Dele Alli was left out entirely but will return here.
In attack, either Harry Kane or Son Heung-min are expected to lead the line but 17-year-old Troy Parrott is in contention after impressing in pre-season.
Finally, Harvey White, Jamie Bowden and Alfie Whiteman will hope to make the bench for the third round tie as they look to gain valuable first-team experience.
